About Me

How I got to be a CSQ…

I am a first generation American whose parents hail from Chennai (formerly Madras), India.  I grew up in Tampa, Florida, and throughout the years I made many trips to Chennai, staying with my grandparents and experiencing a world vastly different from the one to which I was accustomed.

After graduating from New York University in 2008 I traveled to Chennai again with the idea of taking a gap year.  I volunteered at a nonprofit and worked on law school applications, with no intention of doing anything more exciting than that.  In the most unexpected turn of events, I met a tall dashing local named Chetan, and after a whirlwind courtship and engagement my former life plan had gone out the window.  The decision was shocking in many ways; I was getting married so young, so quickly, and moving to a country that was terribly far  from my original home.

I am happy to report that after almost a decade living here, I’ve not had a moment’s regret. I started this blog years ago to document my experience of acclimating to this city, this country, and its people, but gave it up in the interim for various reasons. Now after 6 years, during which I had two sons and became a full-fledged Indian housewife, I’m ready to resume yakking about my ex-pat adventures!
